High quality academic advising is essential to providing the best possible undergraduate experience and is central to retention efforts both at the university and departmental level. Students need to know the value of a Communication Studies major and what it can do for them personally and professionally as they prepare for a successful career. The study of communication prepares students for success across a wide range of career paths as employers consistently seek out job candidates that have the skills and competencies that we emphasize throughout our curriculum. My personal approach to providing the highest quality academic advising is to make personal connections with each undergraduate major and be personally committed to their academic and career success. I see it as my responsibility to be informed by each student's career goals and aspirations, to be well informed on degree requirements as well as campus and community-based opportunities that can help enhance the undergraduate experience. I also see it as my responsibility to work closely with the rest of the faculty to ensure that the needs of our undergraduate student body are being met.
